The use of negative space is a key element of artistic composition…and it can be a totally freeing springboard from which to develop a painting. The Japanese word "ma" is sometimes used for this concept, for example in garden design: the space between elements that reveal the subject. Isaac Stern described music as "that little bit between each note - silences which give the form”. In an amazingly fun way, we will try our hand at some easy techniques that have us working from the background forward to create gorgeous paintings. No watercolor experience necessary, but experienced painters welcome to come experiment - guaranteed fun for all!
