Andrea Edmundson
Instructor
Since moving to Tucson in 1985, Andrea has casually explored several artistic genres such as drawing, painting, jewelry-making, and stained and fused glass art as leisure activities. In 2010, her career as a corporate educator and instructional designer took her to Washington, DC, forcing her to leave most of her art supplies behind; everything, that is, except her stained glass, which arrived in DC as glass shards.
Fortunately, there were many art institutions in the DC area. Andrea soon discovered her passion for mosaics – and a use for her glass shards – by taking classes from internationally recognized mosaic artists. She learned a variety of techniques before returning to Tucson in 2016, when she and her husband started a creative reuse arts center, Upcycle Tucson. There, Andrea continued to pursue her love of mosaics and of teaching art classes for adults. In addition, as a Certified Master Recycler, she often uses reclaimed and repurposed materials in her works.
She is continuously learning other methods of mosaics and passing her knowledge and skills along her students. Upcycle Tucson has since closed, but Andrea continues to create mosaics in her home studio, teaches several classes and workshops, and exhibits her art in multiple venues. She is a professional member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and has a doctorate in adult education. She prides herself on truly being an artist and an instructor.
